Police officials were left red faced at a press conference held to brief the media about the recovery of charas from a local resident here on Thursday. Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP-1) Jasvir Singh, assistant commissioner of police (ACP North) Deepika Singh and others were briefing the Press about accused Madan Singh of Togri Mohalla, who, they claimed, was arrested for possessing 5-kg charas.

As the police officers claimed accused Madan was nabbed from a police naka at Lamba Pind Chowk with the contraband, he pitched in, claiming he was arrested from his house and not from the naka. He also questioned why the police were lying to media. The accused also claimed that he was a resident of Hardeep Nagar and not Togri Mohalla. Visibly embarrassed, the police officers asked their juniors to take the accused away and the gathering, mainly of journalists, burst into laughter.

Madan has been booked under Sections 20, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act at the police station-8.
