A 37-year-old man was beaten to death in Mehmowal village by fellow villagers over a community dispute.

As per the complaint of deceased Parupkar Singh's brother, about 15-20 persons attacked him late Saturday evening when he was going to his 'haveli'. He was rushed to a hospital in a critical condition but he died soon after.

Complainant Kuldev Singh said his family wished to raise a bus stand on the shamlat land but the accused opposed it. There were some other petty issues over which the accused nurtured bitter feelings against his family, he alleged.

Mehtiana police have registered a case under section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against five persons namely Parupkar Singh alias Para, Gurvinder Singh, Sandip Singh, Inderjit Singh and Tarlochan Singh. No arrest has been made so far.

After a post mortem in the civil hospital, the body was handed over to the kin on Sunday.
