Irked over his son's rising demand for money, a farmer along with his brother allegedly beat up his son to death and later disposed of the body in Bulara village. The family did not disclose about the youth's death to anyone in the village.
As the family held the "bhog ceremony" of the youth on Wednesday, villagers suspected something fishy and informed the police.
After investigating the matter, the police came to the conclusion that the father of the deceased and other kin had allegedly killed the youth.
The Sadar police have registered a case against farmer Harjinder Singh of Bulara village, his brother Bhupinder Singh of Ram Nagar along with other relatives Harpreet Singh of Nichi Mangli and Pargat Singh. The accused are at large.
The case has been registered following the complaint made by Jaswinder Singh of Bulara village. Inspector Harpal Singh, in charge, CIA staff, is investigating the matter.
According to Harpal Singh, Jaswinder Singh contacted the police suspecting that Harjinder Singh had killed his son Varinder Singh, 23, and disposed of his body. Jaswinder Singh told the police that he was shocked to hear the voices coming out from the house of Harjinder Singh on June 12. When he peeped in through a hole in the door, Harjinder Singh along with other kin was allegedly beating up his son Varinder Singh brutally with sticks.
Later, Harpreet Singh and Pargat Singh allegedly took unconscious Varinder on a motorcycle.
According to inspector Harpal Singh, Jaswinder Singh had ignored the matter as he found it to be a family affair, but when the family held the bhog ceremony of Varinder on Wednesday, he found something suspicious and sounded the police.
"The police initiated the investigation immediately. On prima facie, the police have found that Varinder Singh was a drug addict and used to demand money from family to meet his needs. Irked by his rising demands, Harjinder Singh in collusion with his relatives, allegedly beat Varinder to death on June 12," said the inspector.
"Later, they carried the body to house of Bhupinder Singh in Ram Nagar and cremated it in the Dholewal cemetery. The villagers were unaware about the death of Varinder Singh. They were shocked when they come to know about that the family had performed the last rites without telling anyone. The case has been registered and the police have been conducting raids for the arrest of the accused," he added.
