The Dugri police on Friday booked a man for duping two Tarn Taran men of Rs 7 lakh on the pretext of securing job for them in jail department.

In his compliant, Sewa Singh of Uppal village of Tarn Taran alleged that he came in contact with Tarsem Singh of Baba Deep Singh Nagar of Dugri.

Tarsem Singh told him that he possessed links in jail department and he could secure job for his son and one of their relatives in the department, and in return demanded Rs 10 lakh from them.

Sewa Singh alleged they had paid Rs 7 lakh in advance to the accused, but he neither secured job for his son and their relative nor returned their money.

Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Sulakhan Singh, who is investigating the matter, said the police have launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused.

A case under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused in this context at Dugri police station.
