Police have booked a man in his 20s for the murder of his mother at Kokri Heraan village under Ajitwal police station, here, 23 km from the district headquarter, on Saturday.

The accused, Rajveer Singh, suspected his mother, Inderjeet Kaur, 45, of having an affair. The accused's father, Bhupinder Singh, witnessed the murder and is the complainant.

"I was away on some work to the Raian Wala village. On return home, I saw my son strangulating my wife in our bedroom. I tried my best to stop the crime, but my wife was dead by then. Rajveer pushed me aside and fled," his complaint to the SSP reads.

Investigation officer SHO Gurwinder Singh Bhullar said that Rajveer had been booked for the murder of his mother, but he had not been arrested yet. The body has been brought to Dr Mathura Dass civil hospital Moga for post-mortem.

"We are waiting for the autopsy report. However, the body was handed over to the family," the police said. "After preliminary investigation, a case has been registered against Rajveer Singh under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code at the Ajitwal police station. A special police team has been formed to crack the case."
