Man booked in Patiala for creating woman’s fake Facebook account

The police have booked a 21-year-old man for harassing a girl by using her photographs to create a fake Facebook profile of hers. He is also accused of stalking her. The accused was identified as Mohit Kumar and is on the run.

The police have booked a 21-year-old man for harassing a girl by using her photographs to create a fake Facebook profile of hers. He is also accused of stalking her. The accused was identified as Mohit Kumar and is on the run.

“My daughter started getting calls from multiple mobile numbers as the accused also posted her number on the fake id and when somebody told her about the source of getting her number, she alarmed the family,” said, mother of the 20-year-old girl, in her complaint.

The police said that the complainant runs a boutique in front of the house of the accused. The mother of the accused had obtained victims’ mobile number for medical emergency as she worked at a hospital.

However, the accused somehow obtained the number and used her WhatsApp profile pictures to create the profile on the social networking website.

The police have registered a case under Section 66-D of Information Technology (IT) Act, 2000 (cheating by personation by using computer resource) and 354 D (stalking) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Kotwali Patiala police station. No arrest has been made so far.

The police said the investigation was on and efforts were on to nab him.
