Man commits suicide over property dispute

A Batala resident allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance over a property dispute with his sister here late on Wednesday night.

As per information, the victim, Rajinder Singh, a resident of Kahnuwan road, had property dispute with his sister, who is married in Patiala.

In her complaint to police, the victim’s wife, Manjeet Kaur, stated that her husband had property dispute with his sister for the past some years due to which he used to remain tensed.

She claimed after the death of her father-in-law, her sister-in-law Sukhwinder Kaur, a resident of Patiala, had already taken her share of property in `18 lakh cash from her husband.

But, a few years back, when Rajinder asked his sister to sign some legal documents, she denied and started demanding more money, stated Manjeet.

“After the intervention of some relatives, Sukhwinder agreed to sign the papers, but on Wednesday afternoon, when my husband took her to tehsil complex for completing the formalities, she again refused to sign after which her husband, who was already very tense, locked himself in a room and committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance.” she added.

Sub-inspector Parkash Singh said following the complaint of Manjeet Kaur, police had registered a case under section 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against Sukhwinder Kaur, Gurpreet Singh and Harjeet Singh.
