A 48-year-old man and his daughter were arrested for allegedly assaulting a head constable and tearing his uniform at the court complex on Saturday.

The accused have been identified as Inderjit Singh of Sector 39, Urban Estate, Chandigarh road, and his daughter Prabhpreet Kaur, 23.
The accused had come to the court for hearing of a matrimonial dispute case.

In his complaint, head constable Rajesh Kumar, who is deputed as naib court in court of judicial magistrate Karunesh Garg, said he was on duty in the court on Saturday, when he heard the father-daughter duo making noise outside the court.

He alleged that when he asked them to mellow down, the accused assaulted him and tore his uniform.

Sub-inspector Joginder Singh, additional station house officer (SHO) at Division Number 5 police station, said a case under section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the accused.

He said the accused were produced before the court that sent them to judicial custody.

This is the second such incident in the past one week wherein cops were assaulted. Some miscreants had assaulted four cops at Dholewal Chowk and fled on February 9.
