A man was killed in a cylinder blast in Dhandhari Kalan area of Ludhiana on Wednesday. Jaiprakash Saha, a labourer hailing from Bihar, was cooking food at his rented accommodation in Amarjit da Vehda in Dhandhari Kalan when the cylinder caught fire and exploded.

"He rushed outside the house and threw the cylinder in the middle of the road and tried to put off the blaze by throwing sand on it. He also threw water on the cylinder, but all his attempts failed," said the police.

Jaiprakash sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the civil hospital where he died. The cylinder he was using was suspected to be illegal.

Dhandhari police has initiated a probe into the incident. Jaiprakash was living with two other persons who were not present in the room at the time of the accident.
