Man ends life after being convicted for murder

Having been convicted for murdering his wife, Gurmeet Singh (45) ended his life on the district and sessions court premises by consuming sulphas tablets here on Friday.

A resident of Field Ganj, Kucha number 9, Singh was undergoing trial since February 2009 for murdering his wife.

He had set his wife on fire following some dispute. Before succumbing to burns, his wife had given a statement against him to the police, thus a case was registered against him.

The district and sessions judge, Sant Prakash Sood, pronounced life imprisonment for Singh following which he asked the guard accompanying him to let him use the washroom, where he consumed the sulphas tablets.The division number 5 station house officer, Dharam Pal, said the deceased was expecting the verdict, hence had procured the tablets even before the orders of the judge.

The station house officer also said Singh was accompanied by his son Gurpreet Singh in the court.The guard soon after smelling Gurmeet’s mouth rushed him to the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital DMCH).
