Convicting a man under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, additional sessions judge Poonam R Joshi on Monday sentenced him to 10-year rigorous imprisonment and a fine of `1.05 lakh for raping a four-year-old girl of Beehran village in Jalandhar district.

In case of default of fine, the accused would have to undergo an additional sentence of one year.

Mahilpur police had registered a case against Murari, a native of Uttar Pardesh, in May 2014.

The victim's father had complained that Murari, who was their neighbour, had kidnapped his daughter when they were all asleep and taken her to the nearby bushes and raped her. The child had developed serious health complications and had to be hospitalised for months.

The court ordered that `1 lakh from the total fine amount would be paid to the victim's family.
