The court of additional district and sessions judge Amit Sharma on Friday sentenced a person to eight-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) for raping a 14-year-old girl in Pinjore. The court also imposed Rs 15,000 fine on the convict.
The convict, Zabir Hussain (40), raped the victim in September 2014 when she was alone at her shanty as her parents, who are labourers, had gone out for work.
The victim narrated the incident to her parents and the police was informed. Hussain was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. He was arrested after some months.
“During the trial, the girl stood by her statement. Also, there was medical evidence which confirmed the sexual assault. There was no birth certificate of the girl but the parents were maintaining that the girl was eight-year-old. So we went for medical tests which revealed that the girl’s age was between 12 and 14 years,” said Manoj Vashisht, public prosecutor in the case.
