The court of additional district and sessions judge Moga, Harpal Singh, has awarded eight-year jail to Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Chugha Khurad village, for murdering his wife, Veerpal Kaur, in July 2011.

The convict had been booked on a complaint from Gulzar Singh of Dhingar village in district Bathinda, the father of the victim. Dowry demand and harassment had led to the death.

Kuldeep was booked for murder and Section 34 (act done in furtherance of common intention).

The accused has also been asked to impose Rs 5,000 as fine, failing which he would have to undergo an additional year in jail.
