The court of sessions judge Tejwinder Singh sentenced to life imprisonment Mewa Singh, a retired railway employee, for shooting dead his wife Malkit Kaur on December 12, 2012.
The convict used to beat and harass his wife as a result of which she had started living with her parents in Thandewala in Muktsar district.

When all three came out of court complex, the convict came to them and demanded his wife be handed over to him, which the family denied. Angry at this, Mewa Singh opened fire, leaving all three injured.
