A local court on Thursday awarded three-and-a-half years rigorous imprisonment to a Khuda Lahora resident for hitting a woman constable with his car when she tried to stop him near the Sector 19/20 dividing road last year.
The accused, Sukhjit Singh, was also imposed a fine of Rs 4,000. It was contended that since the accused was not wearing seat belt, he was signaled to stop by an on-duty head constable on December 30, 2015.
When he didn’t stop, lady constable Nikky signaled him to stop her but he hit him with his car following which she suffered multiple injuries and got unconscious. He was held guilty under sections 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty) and 353 (criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty).
