The Daba police have arrested a man for attempting to rape his seven-year-old daughter at Preet Nagar on Sunday. The accused, Sunil Kumar, 28, was produced in court on Monday and remanded in one-day police custody.
Sunil, who is a labourer, was booked on his wife's complaint. He allegedly sent her to market to buy grocery before making a rape bid on their daughter.
Assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Harbans Singh, who is investigating the case, said the accused, who was trying to flee, was arrested soon after registration of an FIR. He has been booked under Section 376/511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The complainant stated that when she returned from market on Sunday, she found her daughter crying and terrified. She alleged that the girl told her that Sunil tried to rape her, and when she started crying, he threatened her to keep quiet and left the house.
The accused has been married for eight years and has a four-year-old son as well.
