The district police have arrested a man for cheating people on the pretext of assuring them jobs in different departments by claiming close association with union food processing industry minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
The accursed, identified as Gurlal Singh, a resident of Moosa road in Mansa district, had allegedly defrauded complainant Parkash Singh, a resident of Ghania in Faridkot district, of Rs 3.50 lakh.
The complainant alleged that the accused had taken the money from him in October 2013 by claiming that he was close to the union minister and would get him recruited in the agriculture department as the complainant has done MSc (agriculture).
The complainant has alleged in his complaint to the police that the accused neither fulfilled his promise not returned his money.
Investigating officer assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Ranjodh Singh said that in the preliminary interrogation, the accused has confessed to having cheated other people also by assuring them jobs claiming close links with political leaders, but details of these cases will be clear by Saturday only.
The accused reportedly used to introduce himself as personal assistance to the union minister to win the people's confidence.
