Police have arrested the man whose indiscriminate firing at a wedding ceremony in Kothe Jattan village on December 16 last year had claimed the life of 22-year old youth Maninder Singh of the same village. Accused Paramjit Singh alias Pamma, a resident of Ghullan village, was arrested from a hideout and a country-made pistol and 450 gm of narcotic substance was recovered from him, the police claimed.
A case had been registered at Hariana police station against 19 peoplem including two brothers of the bride, but the real culprit could not be nabbed despite having been identified in a video. There were protests against the police for delay in action. Garhdiwala and CIA police finally captured the accused on Wednesday. He was produced in the court of duty magistrate who sent him to one day police remand.
Senior superintendent of police (SSP Rajjit Singh Hundal said Pamma was a proclaimed offender in another murder case registered against him in Tanda police station in 2011. Besides a number of robbery and extortion cases were also pending against him, he informed.
Maninder had gone to the 'Jago' function hosted by a co-villager on the occasion of his daughter's marriage where a group of drunken youth opened celebratory firing. One bullet hit him and he died on the spot.
