In a shocking incident, a man, who had approached the police in connection with the murder of his minor son and a theft of `7,500 from his house, has turned out to be the killer. The Amritsar rural police have arrested the accused identified as Jagtar Singh for the incident that occurred at Purana Tanel village.

On September 15, the accused had approached the police for registration of a case in connection with the murder of his son Sajan Singh (12) and theft of `7,500 from his house. A case under Sections 302 and 380 of the IPC was registered against unidentified person at Mattewal police station.

Rajbir Singh, SHO, Mattewal police station, said initially Jagtar Singh had alleged that he had gone out with his eldest son while his wife had taken their second son to Tarsikka on the day of the incident. "He had claimed that Sajan Singh was alone at home when the theft took place and he was found dead when the family returned in the evening," said the SHO.

He, however, added that during investigation of the case, the accused confessed that as he was taking `7,500 from the almirah, his youngest son, Sajan Singh, saw him and said he would report the matter to his mother.

"The accused slapped the boy and threw him on the bed and strangled him with a rope. He dumped the corpse in the bathroom before leaving the home," said the SHO. He added that the accused has been arrested and taken on remand for further investigation.
