Police on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly locking up his parents in a room.

The accused has been identified as Sumesh Anand of Barewal, who runs a garment shop in the Model Town area.

After investigating the matter for about three months, the PAU police registered a case in the context on Tuesday. The police booked the accused under sections 342 (wrongful confinement) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian penal code.

In his complaint, Ramesh Chander, father of the accused, alleged that on the intervening night of June 19 and 20, the accused locked them up in a room and switched off the lights. They called up the neighbours who intervened and rescued them.

He further alleged that on intervening night of June 20 and 21, the accused again locked them up inside the room and switched off the lights. They then informed the police control room, following which the PCR motorcycle staff rescued them.

Sub-inspector Surinder Chopra, station house officer of the PAU police station, said the complainant alleged that the accused used to torture them.
