A 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping and sodomising the five-year-old daughter of his tenant at New Sundar Nagar in Jamalpur on Monday night.
The accused, Naresh Kumar, allegedly lured the victim with candies and took her to a room in the house where he committed the crime. He fled the house after the incident, but was arrested on Tuesday while trying to flee the city.
The Jamalpur police have registered a case under section 376 (rape), 377 (unnatural offences) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012 against the accused.
Police said Kumar was married and had one child, and he and his wife were expecting another child.
In his complaint, victim's father said he lived on rent in the house of Shamsher Kumar, father of Naresh Kumar.
A supervisor in a hosiery factory, the complainant alleged that he was not present at home at the time of the incident, while his wife was preparing dinner. He alleged that finding his daughter alone, Kumar lured her with chocolates and candies, and took her to another room in the house where he raped and sodomised her, before fleeing the house. The complainant said when his wife started looking for her daughter, she was shocked to find her bleeding profusely in a room.
Inspector Davinder Singh, station house officer (SHO), Jamalpur police station, said taking swift action, the police registered a case against the accused and arrested him from Jamalpur area.
