The local police on Friday arrested a 23-year-old man for allegedly robbing a Tarn Taran trader of `85,000 at Akalgarh Market.

The accused has been identified as Ramesh Kumar of Dhakka Colony. His accomplice, Rinku, also of Dhakka Colony, is at large. The police have recovered stolen cash from the accused.

In his complaint to police, Parminder Singh said he came to Ludhiana by bus and boarded a three-wheeler with `85,000 in his pocket. But when he got off the vehicle, he found his cash missing. He added that two men were also sitting in the three-wheeler. He raised an alarm and tried to locate the vehicle himself, but in vain, following which he approached the Division Number 1 police station that initiated investigation.

Division Number 1 SHO inspector Surinder Mohan said a case under section 379 (theft) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against the accused.
Later, some passers-by, who had been alerted by the victim earlier, informed the police that they had nabbed one of the accused, while his accomplice had fled.
