Police have arrested an employee of a local rice manufacturing and exporting firm for allegedly misappropriating a sum of over Rs 44 lakh in connivance with an accountant of the firm.

Police claim to have recovered Rs 30,000 and a car, belonging to the husband of a partner, from "munshi" and efforts are on to nab the accountant who is at large.

Accused Sanjeev, a resident of Cheeka and Ram Dia of Bhagal, were working as accountant and "munshi" in the firm since 2009.

The arrested accused has been sent in judicial custody till November 26 by a local court on Tuesday.
According to information, Jai Bhagwan Bansal and Poonam Garg, wife of Sushil Garg of Kaithal, were running a rice mill under the name of Messrs Vardan Exports at Shergarh road here.

The accused used the car owned by Sushil Garg to make recoveries of arrears from the firm's debtors.
While reconciling accounts for the year the partners of the firm noticed discrepancies to the tune of Rs 44.65 lakh.

The partners demanded the money and the car from the two employees. The duo, according to the police, not only refused to do so but also threatened the partners with dire consequences following which the firm lodged a complaint with the police.
