A 35-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly trying to rape a married woman after barging into her house in Daba. In her complaint, the 26-year-old victim said that her husband worked in Moga, and used to visit home every fortnight.

On April 3, Nachhatar Singh visited her house to enquire about an address and left after getting the information. Later, on April 5, Singh returned when she was alone and barged into her house before trying to rape her. When she raised an alarm, Singh managed to flee after threatening her to keep mum, the victim alleged.

On Sunday, the victim filed a complaint with Daba police station, following which a case of attempt to rape under section 376/511 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered and the accused was arrested on Monday.

Inspector Sarbjit Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Daba police station, said they would produce the accused before the court on Tuesday.
