Man held with 1.50 kg opium

The anti-narcotics and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing arrested a truck owner and recovered 1.50 kg opium from his possession on Monday. The accused was produced before a court, which sent him to one-day police custody on Tuesday. The accused has been identified as Santa Singh (55) of Dakha village.

Sub-inspector Harbans Singh, incharge of anti-narcotics and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing said the police arrested the accused from Sham Nagar near bus stand on Monday. The accused was walking towards bus stand when he was nabbed.

According to the police, he confessed that he used to bring opium from Jharkhand for `30,000 per kg to sell it to drug addicts for `1.50 lakh. He is said to be involved in this unlawful business for the last two years.

A case under sections 18, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act has been registered against him at division number 5 police station. The sub inspector said the police expect the accused to reveal more information on drug smuggling.
