Man held with two kg opium

The CIA staff police on Friday evening arrested a man after recovering two kg opium from his possession. The accused has been identified as Surjit Singh Goldy, a resident of Kidwai Nagar.

Sub-inspector Mohinder Singh at CIA (crime investigation agency) staff said the police have arrested the accused from Lalton Turn following a tip-off. The accused was coming from Mansooran said in his Maruti Swift car. The police stopped the car and frisked, and found opium the dash board of his car.
A case under sections 18, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered against the accused at Sadar police station.

The sub-inspector said the police have been questioning the accused from where he used to get the contraband and how many people were involved in the drug peddling.
