One person was killed and another seriously injured in a road accident in Dhuri subdivision of the district on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Gurcharan Singh of Babban Pur village of the district, while the injured Gautam has been referred to Rajindra hospital at Patiala.
According to the police, the accident took place when Gurcharan and Gautam were returning from a private factory after their duty and a tractor trolley, coming from the opposite direction, hit their motorcycle on the Dhuri-Bagrian road near the toll barrier.
Dhuri police station in-charge Satnam Singh reached the spot and called for the '108' ambulance, but Gurcharan died before the ambulance reached the spot. Gautam was taken to a local civil hospital from where doctors referred him to the Patiala hospital.
Gurcharan Singh died on the spot within 20 minutes of the accident, but the ambulance arrived after 40 minutes.
Dhuri deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Krishan Kumar said that the police have arrested the driver of the tractor-trolly Paramjit Singh of Budhlada village and booked him under Section 304-A of the IPC.
On the delay in the arrival of the ambulance, he said, "I came to know the people had also called the ambulance but it got delayed. However, but the SHO had reached the spot in time."
