A 65-year-old man was killed allegedly by his son in village Landheke in the district on Saturday following some dispute over land within the family.

Gurcharan Singh, an ex-serviceman, was allegedly murdered by Manjinder Singh (40) with a sharp-edged weapon when his parents objected to the sale of two-and-a-half acres of agricultural land by him without their prior permission, police said.

He then attempted suicide, but was saved by some neighbours.

Manjinder was rushed to civil hospital from where he was shifted to Ludhiana in a serious condition, they said, adding that a case has been registered against him.
