Man, kin arrested for abducting, raping minor

Police on Saturday arrested a 21-year-old man for abducting a minor on the pretext of marriage, and his parents for helping him in committing the crime.

The accused have been identified as Sandeep Singh, his mother Balwinder Kaur and step father Jagroop Singh of Gobind Nagar.

Daba SHO Vinod Kumar said, “The accused kidnapped 16-year-old girl, a resident of Gobind Nagar, on the pretext of marriage on April 5. After kidnapping her, the accused vacated the house in Gobind Nagar and shifted to some other place. On Saturday, police arrested the accused from Samrala Chowk following a tip-off.”

“During investigation, accused told police that they shifted to a rented accommodation in Vishkarma Nagar on Tajpur Road after kidnapping the girl. Following the information provided by the accused, police recovered the girl, who told police that he repeatedly raped her for at least two-and-a-half month,” the SHO said.

Kumar said, “The police have booked Sandeep under Sections 376 (rape), 363 (kidnapping) and 366 (procuration of minor girl) while his parents have been booked under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. The accused were produced before the court, which sent them to judicial custody.”

The victim was a Class-9 student, while the accused works in a hosiery factory.
