A 23-year-resident of Kingra village, Kulwinder Singh, has been arrested for allegedly murdering a 45-year-old woman resident he was having an affair with, on Monday.
Karamjeet Kaur was found strangulated at a secluded seldom-used cowshed on Monday noon. Kaur is married has is survived by two children. Kulwinder is unmarried.
"Kulwinder Singh has been arrested. He has confessed that he murdered the woman as she had reportedly developed an intimate relationship with another man. She was strangulated by her own dupatta," Faridkot SSP Gurmeet Singh Randhawa told reporters.
Karmajeet and Kulwinder had been having an affair for years now, the SSP claimed.
"The cattle shed was reportedly used by one Shinder Singh. The victim worked as a domestic help and is survived by a daughter and a son."
Karamjeet Kaur had been married to Sukhdev Singh of Balmgarh village of Muktsar district. After a dull marriage, she reportedly came back to Kingra and started staying in her maternal home. Illness of Sukhdev is said to have soured the marriage.
"The accused belongs to the farming community and lived near the house of the victim. He was also living in his maternal village. The affair flourished over phone," the police added.
The accused has been remanded in police custody for two days.
