In a shocking incident, Harpreet Singh, 28, a resident of Sukhanwala village of Faridkot district, allegedly pushed his wife and mother-in-law into the Rajasthan canal on Wednesday evening.
Harpreet, who has been to an Arab country Bahrain, allegedly had not been on good terms with his wife Pinder Kaur. They had been married for two years and had a one-year-old daughter.
The youth convinced his wife and mother-in-law Jaswinder Kaur to reach the canal near the town to perform some ritual, but allegedly pushed them into the canal. Jaswinder Kaur was rescued by the passersby while Pinder Kaur was swept away.
Jaswinder Kaur was rushed to the GGS medical college and hospital here while the body of Pinder Kaur is still missing.
Harpreet has allegedly fled and taken his daughter with him. The police have registered a case for attempt to murder against Harpreet Singh.
"A case has been registered against the accused while the dead body of the woman is yet to be found. The police are investigating the case," said Vishaljit Singh, DSP sub division Faridkot.
