A day after some men attempted to rape a pregnant woman in the city, the police on Saturday booked a Kabir Nagar resident for allegedly raping a colleague of his, after serving her tea laced with a sedative, in June this year.

The accused even recorded the act on video and threatened her of making the clipping public if she told anyone about the incident.

The Salem Tabri police have now charged Vinod Kumar with rape, though they are yet arrest the accused. The complainant, a 26-year-old married woman, who works for a hosiery factory here, had accompanied Kumar to collect samples from other factories in June this year.

She alleged that Kumar later offered her sedative-laced tea. When the victim complained of ill-health, the accused took her to his home where he raped her and made a video clip of the entire act.

Fearing repercussions, the woman kept quit. But, when the man again tried to rape her, she narrated the incident to her husband and, later, the two approached the police.

Police assistant sub-inspector Ashwani Kumar said the police were carrying out raids to arrest the accused.
