A 38-year-old woman was allegedly raped by an acquaintance in a car at Sector 32, Chandigarh Road. She was offered soft drinks laced with sedatives by the accused.
The accused, who has been identified as Karamjit Singh, alias Karma, of Chandigarh Road, had also allegedly made lewd videos of her. He had threatened the victim that he would upload the videos on social networking sites if she shared the incident with anyone. The woman did the same, but the accused again tried to rape her on Friday. Following which, the woman lodged a complaint against the accused at the division number 7 police station on Friday.
The victim, a resident of Khud Mohalla, is a widow and living with her two daughters. The woman alleged that she had came in contact with the accused on March 1.
The accused had jotted down the victim's mobile phone number while she was at a shop to get her mobile phone recharge done. After this the alleged accused had started calling her often.
The accused, who had introduced himself as a journalist of a local vernacular daily, had lured her on pretext of getting her a "good" job. The accused has also called on her to an eatery and befriended her.
The accused asked her to meet him at the Chandigarh Road. When she reached there, the accused, who was sitting in a car with an unidentified man, took her to an abandoned place in Sector 32 at the Chandigarh Road. The accused then offered her cold drink laced with sedatives.
After she gained consciousness, she came to know that the accused has raped her and made her lewd videos. The woman alleged that the accused had threatened her not to reveal this incident to anyone. Following the threats, she kept mum, but the accused again called on her and tried to rape her.
The police have registered a case under Sections 376 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). SHO at the division number 7 police station Inspector Dalip Bedi said the police had launched a manhunt for the arrest of the accused.
