A 26-year-old man was on Thursday found lying on the Tibba Road with his private parts and right hand cut off.

Passers-by, who witnessed the man lying unconscious on the road and bleeding profusely, informed the police control room. Thereafter, the PCR motorcycle staff ferried the victim to civil hospital in 108 ambulance. According to doctors the victim is critical due to the profuse bleeding.

Inspector Harvinder Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Basti Jodhewal police station, said the victim who was in a semi-conscious stage, had identified himself as Sanjay, a native of Gogoi in Assam. He added that Sanjay was a farm labourer in Phagwara.

He had gone to Gogoi to visit his family and had boarded a train to return to Phagwara two days ago.
The SHO suspected that Sanjay was attacked by a gang of robbers, who cut off his private parts and hand after robbing him. He added that the police had recovered two train tickets from Sanjay’s pocket.
Therefore, it could also be his co-passenger who attacked him. The police are trying to trace his co-passenger.

“The victim has not regained complete consciousness. He woozily first said that someone had given him sedatives, and later said he had cut off his parts himself,” the SHO said.

“We are waiting for him to return to consciousness. A case would be registered after recording his statement,” he added.
