A man was shot dead while two others were injured when members of a rival group opened fire on them owing to old enmity between them at Bhaini village near here late Thursday evening.

The incident occurred at about 8 pm when the victim, identified as Amandeep Gosha of Mehraj village, along with others, was accompanying Balkar Singh, a resident of Bhaini village, to reach his home after attending a fair in nearby Selbra village. They were accompanying him to his home because they had got the information that Balkar might be attacked by the rival group.

SHO, Nathana police station, Ucee Chawla, said that the police have booked five people under Section 302 of the IPC and were searching them. They are Darshan, Bhola, Radu, Babbu and Sukhjinder Singh, residents of the same village.
