The local police have booked three persons, relatives of a senior officer in Punjab, in connection with the death of a head constable, Achhar Ram.
Ram was employed as a security-person with Balwant Singh, a businessman. He had succumbed to three bullet injuries, two on the chest and one in the arm, on his way to a hospital on Wednesday evening.
The case was registered after family members of Ram assembled at the local civil hospital and protested against the police.
Kin of Ram also alleged that Balwant and his sons had leveled theft charges on Ram for which he was being interrogated since June 27. Balwant is the father-in-law of IG administration Kuldip Singh. Balwant's sons Harjodh Singh and Kultar Singh have also been booked.
Kishan Dev, the brother-in-law of the deceased, has alleged that his employers killed him. The police have registered a case under sections 302 (murder) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC, but sources in Balwant's family maintained that the guard had committed suicide.
They said Rs 14 lakh had gone missing from their house a few days ago for which all employees were questioned.
They rubbished the murder allegations. SSP Balkar Singh Sidhu said Balwant Singh and his sons were still at large.
He added a special investigation team had been formed to investigate further into the matter. SP (D) Jagmohan Singh will head the team.
