The daughter-in-law of famous Punjabi singer late Kuldeep Manak has approached Punjab and Haryana high court to seek release of her seriously ill husband Yudhvir Manak, also a Punjabi singer, from the alleged illegal custody of her mother-in-law Sarabjit Manak.
Taking up the petition, a bench headed by Justice Nirmaljit Kaur issued notice of motion to state police and Sarabjit and directed Ludhiana SSP to enquire and submit a report on April 4, the next date of hearing.
Petitioner Jasmine Kaur alleged that rather than ensuring proper medical treatment to her husband, Yudhvir's mother, his sister Shakti and the latter's husband were collecting money from Kuldeep Manak's fans on the pretext of giving him proper treatment.
The court was informed that Sarabjit had been providing Yudhvir with intoxicating substances and drugs so that he continued to remain in ill health and the aid keeps on pouring in from Kuldeep Manak's fans.
Jasmine also said that as she had a joint bank account with Yudhvir in Ludhiana, her mother-in-law used to force her to sign blank cheques for withdrawing money on the pretext of Yudhvir's medical treatment.
