Manesar villages lack faith in SIT, demand CBI probe

Five days after a general manager (HR) of Marui Suzuki was killed in workers' violence at the Manesar plant in Haryana, a mahapanchayat of 100 villages demanded a CBI inquiry into the incident, saying that they did not have faith in the special investigation team (SIT) formed to probe the matter.

Former Gurgaon zila parishad chairman Rao Abhay Yadav, who presided over the mahapanchayat, said: "We don't have faith in the SIT and demand a CBI inquiry into the incident." The mahapanchayata came out strongly against the act of violence by workers. "Those involved in the violence must be brought to book and sacked," he said.

As part of a six point agenda passed in the meeting, it was decided to form a committee of the villages to look into the incident.
