Manish Barara kidnapping: Key accused sent in police remand

One of the key accused in the infamous Manish Barara kidnapping case, Sahil Chandel, who was brought from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh on a production warrant, was produced in local court on Monday and remanded in police custody till August 8.

One of the key accused in the infamous Manish Barara kidnapping case, Sahil Chandel, who was brought from Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh on a production warrant, was produced in local court on Monday and remanded in police custody till August 8.

Complainant's counsel Harpreet Sandhu pressed for police remand of the accused, saying the case happens to be one of the most heinous crimes ever occurred in the state, where a young businessman was kidnapped and a ransom of Rs 5 crore had to be paid to secure the safe release of the victim.

He said that the accused, Sahil Chandel, was one of the key players in the crime and it was from his car that major portion of ransom amount (Rs 4.62 crore) was recovered and more the walkie-talkie set, mobile phone of the victim and remaining sum of the ransom paid were yet to be recovered.

Seven other accused in this case are in judicial custody and another one, Amit, in in police remand till till August 7.
