Former chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party nominee from Kangra parliamentary seat Shanta Kumar on Monday heaped praises on Major Vijay Singh Mankotia, stating that the former Congress minister was a “respectable leader”. Mankotia, leader, Shanta Kumar, congress, alliance, news hindustan times“For me, Mankotia is a respectable leader. He has done politics of values and has always stood against corruption. He has a different stature and repute. He has never hesitated from speaking truth,” added Shanta.

On his meeting with Mankotia on Monday, Shanta said, “I met him to seek his support as I am contesting the Lok Sabha elections from Kangra,” said Shanta. When asked whether he invited Mankotia to join the BJP, Shanta said he had gone to meet Mankotia “just as a candidate”.

Shanta visited Mankotia's house in Tiara while returning from Chamba to Palampur.The two leaders had a closed door meeting late on Monday evening, discussing a possible alliance. Mankotia is miffed with the Congress leadership and feels that he has been ignored since he joined the Congress nearly two years ago.Disgruntled over not being invited for Rahul Gandhi's rally at Dharamsala, Mankotia has now started weighing his options. Speculations are rife that he may contest as an independent.
