City based Sabyachark Saath Punjab (SSP) which has been organising Miss World Punjaban since last eleven years with an aim to keep the young girls of the state connected with their roots organised this event for the twelfth time at Doordarshan Punjabi studios in Jalandhar on Monday.
This time, Manpreet Kaur Saggu, a 19 year old Amritsar girl theatre artist who completed her Bachelors in Commerce was declared the winner who said she was following this event since last several years and always dreamt to be its winner. “It was a cut throat contest where we had to prove our talent and knowledge about Punjab and its culture through various rounds. I wish to inspire people to love their culture like people in most European countries do”, said Saggu.
High Court Lawyer Harbhavreet Kaur (22) from Chandigarh and Gagandeep Kaur Randhawa (22) who is working in a multinational company in New Zealand were first and second runners up respectively. Like Randhawa, there were many NRI girls from various countries who had come to India to especially participate in this contest.
In total, there were sixteen participants who were selected after many auditions. Punjabi actress Gurleen Chopra, comedian Jaswinder Bhalla and singer Amar Noorie and film artist Sunita Dhir were the judges of this event.
They along with chairman of SSP Jasmer Singh Dhatt opined that if such events are regularly organised for the youth, they will always remain connected to their culture. They also offer a perfect platform to young minds to unfold their talent.
