The state vigilance bureau on Friday nabbed a secretary of a market committee in the district red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000.
Stating this, Suresh Arora, chief director-cum-DGP, vigilance bureau, said they caught Dalbir Singh, secretary, market committee, posted at Dhoodhan Sadha village in Patiala district, for demanding and accepting bribe of R5,000 from complainant Harbans Singh, a commission agent at grain market, Devigarh, for fee relaxation in auction process.
He added that the complainant approached the bureau and alleged that Dalbir Singh was demanding bribe from him. After verifying the facts, a vigilance team led by Birbal Singh, DSP (vigilance), laid a trap and nabbed the suspect in the presence of two government officials as witnesses.
A vigilance case under Sections 7 and 13, read with Section 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, has been registered at vigilance bureau police station, Patiala, and further investigation was under progress, he added.
