Martyr Sukhwinder Singh cremated with full state honours

Martyr soldier Lance Naik Sukhwinder Singh was cremated with full state honours in his native Sooch village in the presence of representatives of the civil administration and the army on Sunday.

The martyr's body was kept in Bathinda cantonment after it reached here on Saturday night and was taken to his native village on Sunday morning. PWD minister and Maur MLA Janmeja Singh Sekhon, with the sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), Maur, Paramdeep Singh, deputy superintendent of police Janak Singh, district defence services welfare officer Baljinder Virk paid tributes to the martyr at his village. Army jawans presented a guard of honour to the martyr in the village.

Before the body was taken to the village, army officials paid tributes to the martyr at Bathinda military station. The gallant soldier laid down his life while fighting militants during an encounter at Mahura in the Uri Sector in Jammu & Kashmir.

Lt gen PM Hariz, general officer commanding, Chetak Corps, laid a wreath on behalf of all ranks of Chetak Corps. Wreaths were also laid on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff, army commander, Sapta Shakti Command and colonel of the regiment of the artillery.
