Municipal Corporation of Jalandhar mayor Sunil Jyoti held a press conference on Saturday to clarify on allegations made against him by opposition councillors, who had accused him that he had not spent Rs 13 crore on construction of roads in the city as mentioned in the budget.

Jyoti provided a list of works along with payments which showed that most of the works had started five years ago.

When asked that these works had been completed, he said the municipal corporation had made these payments (pertaining to November 2011) in December last year.

“The Congress councillors while reading Section 64 of the Punjab Municipal Corporation Act claimed that zero hour is must,” the mayor said, adding that they should read the section thoroughly.

“It is also mentioned in the section that the questions put in the meeting should be given to the corporation secretary at least seven days before,” the mayor surther said.
