Mayor Sunil Jyoti along with officials of the building and road department on Friday inspected the stretch of Harnamdaspura Road after it was reported that the road had caved in at many places even as the repair work on the stretch was going on, putting a question mark on the quality of work.

"The reports of the road caving in are false as the picture of the cave-in is nothing but a manhole. I have inspected the stretch personally and I don't know who is spreading such nonsense. I have ordered the officials to click pictures of the stretches which are being repaired and keep me updated," said Jyoti.

The officials of municipal corporation (MC) who were inspecting the road along with Jyoti said that this time work is being carried out under strict supervision and any discrepancy on behalf of the road contractor will not be tolerated. Sampling is being done on a regular basis and we are constantly surveying the work.

"The people have become aware about the development works being carried out in the city now and they also keep us informed about violations. It is not easy to fool them now and at the same time our team is doing a good job in assuring good quality work," said Gurpreet Khehra, MC commissioner.

However, there are minor discrepancies on almost all the stretches and residents have put them before the B&R officials present on duty. The repair work on Harnamdaspura Road has got delayed because a private hospital had encroached upon the stretch and chocked the gully adjoining the road. The delay is causing a lot of trouble for commuters plying on this route.

The B&R officials, meanwhile, have assured that the work is being carried out at a fast pace and soon the stretch will be completely repaired.
