MC conducts awareness drive on property tax

With a view to spreading awareness, the Municipal Council (MC), Mandi Gobindgarh which is among the richest councils of the state, kicked off an awareness drive about the property tax norms.

To spread awareness, the MC has initiated to hold a series of sessions with different sections of the society.

In the first session of the series, the MC officials interacted with the Motia Khan residents of the town on Saturday.

The MC officials, led by Superintendent Barjinder Singh, on Saturday interacted with the residents and apprised of the benefits of paying property tax.

They also told the residents that there would be no tax on buildings and land used exclusively for religious purposes, cremation or burial grounds, gaushalas, stray animal care centres, historical and heritage buildings, scientific and cultural organisations, charitable and philanthropic organisations.

He said 10 per cent rebate will be given to residents who will deposit their property tax till November 30 and last day of depostiting tax is December 31.

He said a self-assessment system will be adopted.

Municipal council Mandi Gobindgarh president Harpal Singh Nasrali, who also visited the camp said residents must understand that they'll have to file their property tax returns.

He said all the residents should come forward and pay property tax.

They should understand that the money collected through this tax will ultimately be spent on the development of the city.

Fatehgarh Sahib Congress MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra said “Property tax is an additional burden on the urban population of the state.”
