MC engineers continue strike, sanitary inspectors join protest

The work at the municipal corporation got affected as the staff continued its strike on Friday. The engineers staged a protest outside the Zone-B office of MC demanding cancellation of FIR against the junior engineer and sub-divisional officer of of the civic body after the death of a sewer man, Surinder Kumar, who entered a manhole in Abdullahpur Basti on January 11.

The work at the municipal corporation got affected as the staff continued its strike on Friday. The engineers staged a protest outside the Zone-B office of MC demanding cancellation of FIR against the junior engineer and sub-divisional officer of of the civic body after the death of a sewer man, Surinder Kumar, who entered a manhole in Abdullahpur Basti on January 11.


These employees had gone on mass casual leave earlier this week to mark their protest. To support the engineers, members of the ministerial staff of MC and Municipal Sanitary Inspectors Association joined the protest.

Maintenance and paper got badly affected due to the strike on Friday.

Ashwani Malhotra, president, Municipal Sanitary Inspectors Association, said they would support the engineers. He said they were also demanding to fill the vacant posts in various departments of municipal corporation.

Sunil Kumar, president, Municipal Corporation Engineers Association, Punjab, said they would stage a big protest rally on Monday in which, the members from other municipal corporations of the state will also participate.
