A team of Hindustantimes found several houses and shops in the areas of Zone D where residents have again extended the ramps encroaching portions of the road. Some prominent areas in Zone D include Chander Nagar, Haibowal Kalan, Deep Nagar, Upkar Nagar and Kudan Puri.

The nuisance of extension of ramps on the roads has led to traffic problems as roads get tapered. In addition, when residents park their four-wheelers ahead, it congests the road, leaving no space for commuters to pass.

Varinder Kumar, 50-year-old owner of a shop at Haibowal Kalan mentioned that the area already has narrow roads. These have got more tightened as several residents have extended ramps on the roads.

“Earlier when high court ordered the MC to bulldoze the illegally extended ramps, MC acted to it in a partial way.

They destroyed some of them, not all. That seems that they acted just to file the report back, ”expressed Simarpreet Kaur, a 33-year-old resident of Chander Nagar.

When discussed with SS Bindra, assistant town planner, he mentioned: “We are starting up with a survey to check the illegal extensions and action will be taken against violators accordingly.”

Ganshyam Thori, additional commissioner, municipal corporation, was not available to comment.
