The municipal corporation of Ludhiana took action against the illegal rehris stationed at the Bhadaur House market on Wednesday, but halfheartedly. It did not take any action against those involved in the illegal fleecing of visitors at the market.

Acting on HT report ‘At Bhadaur House, parking mafia fleecing visitors’ published on Wednesday, Zone A chief Devinder Singh reached the Bhadaur House parking area, which is not more than 150 meters from the MC headquarters, and took action against the illegal rehris, but did not action against the parking mafia operating in the area.

Singh claimed that no person was charging parking fee from visitors when the MC conducted a raid in the area. “It was raining and no one was present in the area,” said Singh.

However, several officials and recovery vehicles went to the area that alarmed the parking mafia who fled the area.

An official of the tehbazari wing said that if senior officials were serious to remove the menace of parking mafia, they should have conducted a clandestine operation.

“The officials should have taken their personal vehicles to the area so that those demanding parking fee could be caught red-handed,” the official added.

Parking at the Bhadaur House area has not been demarcated by the MC as paid. The MC has failed to stop those persons who charge Rs 20 to Rs 30 for parking in the area.

When the HT team visited to the area on Tuesday, those fleecing the visitors had said that they were authorised by the Bhadaur House Market Association to charge the parking fee.

Gurdeep Singh, who collects parking fee in the area, had told HT that he was being paid Rs 3,500 per month by the market association, and the money collected from the parking was given to the cashier of the association.

Meanwhile, the Zone A chief removed nearly eight-nine illegal rehris from the area. “We will hold a clandestine operation to nab the culprits in near future. The market association has also shown a desire to meet me. I will meet them and tell them not to charge money from anyone as parking fee,” said the chief.
