To strengthen the process of dealing with public's complaints, the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation launched a toll-free helpline number 1800-1800-024 on Friday. Now, by calling at this number, residents can register their complaints, besides getting information regarding services being provided by MC.
The number, which is functional from Friday, will be upgraded within 15 days by the civic body authorities.
According to MC officials currently the number was functional only during working hours, but soon it will be functional for even more hours.
Though MC has launched this number after implementation of model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections, the MC authorities claimed that they had applied for the number at BSNL very early, but it was issued to them late.
Earlier, MC has introduced LMC CRAMAT application for android phone users, and an online service, for registering complaints, but the toll-free service is said to be very beneficial for those who had no access to CRAMAT or online service.
MC additional commissioner Sumit Jarangal said, "This is our experiment with the helpline number, which will also provide information about any process regarding birth or death certificates, property and other works related to municipal corporation. The complaints can be registered through this helpline number after which we will issue the complaint number to the residents and also inform about the time limit for redressal of complaints."
He said, "Some complaints can take time for redressal, as there is shortage of staff, but we will do our best to improve the services. We got good response from CRAMAT and online complaint service, but everybody cannot access it. This number will be soon functioning for 16 hours (from 9am onwards). This service will be functional from Monday to Saturday."
Additional commissioner SP Singh (technology) said, "This number is available for different branches including building and roads, operations and maintenance, health, horticulture, tehbazaari, lights. We hope that the residents will give good response to this service."
"The system will also offer to choose Punjabi, Hindi or English language for registering the complaint," he said.
A resident, Sandeep Singh, said, "It is a good initiative by the municipal corporation, but officials should ensure timely redressal of complaints. We want MC to inform residents if their complaints will take time for redressal."
